Fallout Game Story + Background Part 1
Fallout 4 is about 4 months away from us, and I suppose there will be a lot more new players of the Fallout games. That's why I'm going to summarize the storyline/background of this epic series. (I'm a big fan of Fallout!)
The story of Fallout is very lengthy. I'll split it up into parts for easier understanding.
The most important thing to remember: The background of Fallout series is not following the real history. The people in Fallout focus on developing energy-related technology instead of communication technology. That explains why the computers in Fallout series looks like those at 1960s even they are used before the Great War (2077). While laser/plasma rifles, atomic engines exist.
Before the Great War, fossil fuels started to run out around year 2050, which leads to the increase of fuel prices. The European Commomwealth finally took military actions against the Middle East when the price of fossil fuel reached an unacceptable level. A small-scale nuclear exchange happened between the two parties afterwards, but the conflicts hadn't cause global warfare. The United Nations was then disbanded.
The battles in Middle East marked the opening of the Resource Wars. Countries fought against each other for fossil fuels. Major parties include the U.S, China, Soviet Union and European countries. During the Resource Wars U.S annexed Canada to gain more military force, which was deployed in Anchorage Front Line to fight against the invading China. Known as the Sino-American War.
In the Sino-American War, U.S utilize robots in combat to reduce casualties and increase firepower. E.g. Liberty Prime, Sentry Bot, Mister Gutsy. Power armors were also developed. These technologies greatly helped U.S in the war. China, on the other hand, used stealth suits to assassinate high rank military officers efficiently.
At the end, Great War, a devastating global nuclear exchange, broke out on October 23, 2077. In two hours all countries were hit by salvos of nuclear bombs. Few had survived by hiding inside Vaults, metro tunnels or other places. And that's how Fallout begins.
Vaults had done a great job on preserving humanity, in some cases only. Although the authority claimed that the Vaults were nuclear bombing shelters. They were actually used for conducting cruel experiments on people to test their reactions in different situations. I'll go further on this topic in the next post.
Those who lived outside the Vaults struggled to survive in their owns ways, some formed settlements while some formed gangs. And of course you will encounter them a lot in Fallout.
Mutated creatures were created at the same time, like mirelurks, radscorpions or cazadors. Few are friendly towards humans. I'll also introduce their background information in the next post.
That's it for part 1. In the next post I'll answer frequetly asked questions from players and discuss further about the world of Fallout. Stay tuned!
